Daniel Biry
is a French musician based in London. He started his musical training as
a pianist, first in Brittany where he spent most of his youth and later
in Nice where he formed his first experimental band, BGR, with Raoul Robecchi
in 1974.
The music they played was influenced by German cosmic rock bands like Ash
Ra tempel or Popol Vuh and also american minimalist Terry Riley. It was
probably the first band at that time in the South of France to use the
Minimoog and EMS synthesizers.
From 1977 he
played keyboards in various bands. First with the End, a Stranglers/Doors
type of punk band, which was a complete change of direction from BGR. The
musicians in The End were: Jean-Michel Pucci, bass/lead voc. Paul Salaun,
rhythm guitar, Eric Masson, lead guitar and Daniel Aprosio drums.
The band was
notorious for creating havoc wherever they could play on the Riviera. In
1980 the band split in Paris, where they had moved, because the usual fights
and divergences.
After this
setback Daniel started to study History of Art at La Sorbonne university.
From 1981 to 1983 he played the synthesizer, but not on a regular basis,
in a fusion/rock band, S-Bart, with Christian Pate, lead guitar, and jazz
musicians, Pinky Trecan, alto sax, Michel Allibo, bass (Manu Dibango, Don
Cherry) and Gilbert Sonna, drums (orchestre du Moulin Rouge).
