This
album is inspired by the medieval legend of the town of YS in Brittany
which, according to the myth, was submerged by a tsunami.
Each track is related to one particular moment of the story and is based upon a traditional folk melody. These tunes were collected in the XIXth century by Hersart de la Villemarqué in the Barzaz Breiz but are in fact much older. Breton music is probably one of very few medieval musics still played in western Europe. These tunes may sound simple even naive but it is certainly why they have retained an extraordinary emotional and mysterious power. more about Ys and music from Brittany |

What the critics said: '..It's a magical and
and haunting experience, both ancient and modern, and full of emotional
integrity and human feeling. Often the fragile melodies that float in the
mist recall early Nick Tyndall, the grandiose organ and choral keyboards
suggest Vangelis or Synergy, and like those masters Daniel Biry has learnt
the art of being creative and adventurous whilst still being accessible.
A very nice album that should have wide appeal.'
'...Daniel Biry's fascinating and
wonderfully melodic interpretation is swathed in Celtic mystery and the
imaginative use of Celtic harp, medieval bagpipe, flute and other ancient
instrumental voices blends well with symphonic strings, organ and a mass
of modernist synth voices to create some thought provoking atmospherics...
'...On his synthesizer he undertakes
a voyage as initiatory as modernist on the path of our natural emotion...'
